My graphic focuses on the work of NOLA Green Roots, an organization dedicated to sustainable urban agriculture in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Louisiana. The organization relies on the participation of its community members to take care of gardens in their neighborhoods. In return, the community receives fresh delivered produce from any of the four gardens in the area. NOLA Green Roots also teaches its members how to cook the produce, harvest water, and compost. NOLA Green Roots is able to foster a sense of togetherness within the community by involving everyone, especially the youth and the elderly, in the growing and harvesting process. In doing so, it uplifts the community in the shadow of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, which it is still struggling to recover from.
