Landscape Laboratory

PF_Storyfest_Badge_V4_03-15-16_ALsmall-03.pngLandscape Laboratory is a proposed design for Chain Works District, a 95 acre post-industrial redevelopment project in Ithaca, New York. Building upon the education framework of the Ithaca region, Chain Works District has the potential to complement Ithaca College, Cornell University, and South Hill Elementary School by creating a space that connects, educates and performs. We believe that using the site as a landscape laboratory can create a healthier community by mitigating storm water runoff and pollution on-site through a connected landscape experience. The removal of buildings creates a space for water flow and pedestrian movement to create two main axes. The water will be channelized and filtered to clean up the runoff coming down from South Hill and the contaminants from the site’s industrial past will be remediated in the core area to engage and educate the community. This development is key in the linkage between the educational entities, surrounding communities and ecological processes of the Ithaca region.
