Fish for a cause: The story behind Tambos Pesqueros

Huanuco is a city located in the Highlands of Peru. It was among the top five cities to have the highest reports of anemia and malnutrition among women, including pregnant women and children. Pesquera Diamante, one of the leading companies in the fishing industry in Peru, saw an opportunity to help: taking fish (jurel & caballa) to combat anemia and malnutrition in Huanuco. They created 5 Tambos Pesqueros in high Andean areas where food deserts were present. Tambos Pesqueros are "kiosk" like social ventures, were only women are in charge of selling fish in their communities. Aside from incorporating a huge nutritional value to their weekly diets, women are being empowered by being included in the social and working forces.
