MN2020: Searching for Sustainability in Schools

Sustainability is becoming a greater imperative for running any successful organization in Minnesota, even public schools. The City Saint Paul school district has a sustainability program to both save on energy costs and implement emerging green technology as facilities require maintenance and replacement.

Energy & Sustainability Coordinator Shannon Pinc says hers is mostly a desk job: learning the policy, applying for grants, tracking energy use data; but once in a while facilities staff ventures around (and under) school buildings to investigate sustainability potential like replacing inefficient boilers for geothermal systems.
