Dr. Christopher Cahill, Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department at The George Washington University, is researching storage and disposal for nuclear fuel.
Dr. Cahill's work specifically is basic (as opposed to applied). He tries to understand the chemistry of uranium under aqueous conditions as relevant to environmental settings. Further, he and his team at The George Washington University synthesize new materials containing uranium with a bit more of an exploratory slant, asking- "What interesting properties do U-containing materials exhibit?" And "Can we do anything interesting/useful with these materials and perhaps find new uses for waste products or understand our waste stream better?"
