Has the Economy Helped or Hurt the Growth of Green Business?

Greenbiz.com just released their 3rd annual State of the Green Business report, and the good news is that green initiatives “were not the first ones to be thrown overboard.”

Despite the bad economy, there was a “steady improvement” in reducing the environmental impact of information technology, increasing the amount of certified green office space, reducing paper use and increasing its recycling, and reducing the a… Continue

How GWU is reducing its carbon footprint Thanksgiving weekend...

This email came across the transom at the George Washington University this week and someone forwarded it our way. We thought it offered a few good nuggets of practical advice so we decided to post it here.

I checked the video that I sent to planet forward at Thanksgiving and was surprised to see that it had been viewed by over 1000 people. The next time I checked for it you were in your new format and it was gone. I don't even remember what I called it. It was someth ing like my solution to our fuel consumption, polition and employment problems. It delt with a proposed transportation system based on a vehicle that ciuld be seperated into a passenger compartment and vehicle base that housed the engine. I made the mistake of showing the vehical as a sedan with a trunk and an engine and a passenger compartment. Since the passenger compartment was supposed to be automaticly loaded on a special train by equipment at the station it doesn't make sence that the passengers stuff that was in the trunk would be left behind. To correct this problem the passenger compartment is being changed to look like a minivan. I decided to send a copy of this new minivan in kit form to family members. Each kit consts of wooden parts roofong nails thumb tacks rubber bands and a metal plate that acts as a locking device to hold the parts together. The body and engine surfaces are made of folded cardboard that can be personalized by putting names on the license plates. I will send one to you if you like along with instructions and some additional informtion about the system. Alex Mitchell
