Who even wants to 'throw out' the coal plants before their time? The energy beam dish is decades away! There are rather great technical problems to overcome yet! İ guess this is what one can expect from an English major!

About Me

Brief Bio
Innovation at the forefront of progress is available to raise the standard of living for all Mankind, generate "zero emissions" electric energy in "unlimited" quantity... sufficient to power any new carbon/green house gas reclamation technology without any current industrial contraction, and without any footprint taxation... just to mention the most basic available developments "that can be done, that are not being done, to serve the best interest of Mankind within two decades (at most).

Energy Beam 101: Technology to "eliminate" carbon footprint!

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Leonardo Da Vinci

Why incrementally reduce carbon footprint when it is "simply" possible to completely eliminate carbon footprint?

Simply understand, expand and harness two simple technologies...the magnifying glass and the prism.

1. Look at two "practical applications" of focusing ("concentrating") light energy with a magnifying glass:

Any child with a magnifying glass can ignite fossil fuels (leaves, paper, or tinder for a camp fire).

Any child… Continue

Hi Royce!
I enjoyed and agreed with your post criticizing the impacts of a carbon tax on an economy addicted to fossil fuels.

I also liked the concept of the Space Power Satellite and beaming energy back to earth but think improved nuclear fission from Thorium fuel that produces only fission products as waste that decay to safety in ~400 years is a surer bet for the next couple of decades (nobody is perfect). We may get the necessary five pioneering breakthroughs in 20 years that make SPS a practical contender and not just a visionary concept.

Our economic ideas are really close (the choice of technology is I feel less vital - I'd be happy to choose yours if costs can be honestly shown to be on a ballpark of nuclear or coal.

Royce, engineering majors think that

TURBINES are COOL!

Choose your power source (Nuclear, Coal, Oil, Natural Gas, Solar Thermal) that are scaled to produce grid level amounts of power - all of them use turbines and generators to finally make power. In excess of 90% of the energy that has supported your envied quality of life has come from power produced from TURBINES.

Engineers won't follow the "dirty boiler" stuff knowingly.

Be well,
Bob

I am happy to be your friend on Planet Forward.
I would like to team with you to work for good energy policy that is also based on sound economics.
I am a day-nurse at this time and the nurse in me hopes you will be well.
